The MAN SX is a family of high-mobility off-road trucks made by MAN SE, derived from the MAN KAT1.[1] MAN claims it is the most mobile and reliable truck on earth.[2]
There are 8x8, 6x6, and 4x4 variants. All are air-transportable by C-130 Hercules. A 10x10 demonstrator was also built, with a 1000hp engine.[3]
The MAN SX shares some technologies (most visibly, the cab) with the HX family, and also the FX and LX families.
The British armed forces have ordered large numbers of MAN SX and MAN HX trucks to replace their fleet of Foden, Bedford, and DAF Trucks.[4] 7285 had been ordered by April 2010.[5]
An 8x8 heavy recovery version has also been built; the British army bought 288.[6]
An airport firefighting version is also made;[7] firefighting equipment is supplied by Ziegler and Rosenbauer.[8]
